Atlanta Area Water Use

Water-use data for metropolitan Atlanta and all of Georgia is collected by the Georgia Water Use Program, a cooperative effort of the U.S. Geological Survey and the Georgia Geologic Survey, Environmental Protection Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Public-supply water use in Georgia fluctuates seasonally, with larger withdrawals in summer when outdoor water use is greater (Fanning, 1993).

Public-supply water use is also more variable in summer (Fanning, 1993). Summer water use in Atlanta appears to be affected by both temperature and rainfall (Scott Turner, Atlanta Regional Commission, personal communication).
